About Brooke Carey

Brooke Carey is an assistant editor at Portfolio where she assists Adrienne Schultz with her projects, in addition to editing a few books of her own. Before she started at Portfolio, she had never read a business book, but after working on books like Talent Is Overrated by Geoff Colvin and Street Fighters by Kate Kelly, she completely understands the appeal.

Brooke was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she ate a lot of steamed crabs but when she was 11 she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she ate a lot of cornbread. She graduated as valedictorian from John Overton Comprehensive High School in 2003 and enrolled at Syracuse University that fall. She graduated summa cum laude in 2007 with a degree in magazine journalism, history, and Italian. She moved to New York that October and joined Portfolio in November 2007. She currently resides in Queens and is looking forward to the day when her apartment is big enough to accommodate a cat, dinner parties, and several floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.
